A buyer types something like 'best payroll software for a 30-person agency' and reads a paragraph naming four products. No click, no session, no referrer, and no row in anybody's analytics. If you are not one of the four, nothing anywhere tells you.
We ask ChatGPT the questions your buyers would ask, once a week, with a live web search required, and store what comes back word for word. What you get is the share of those answers that named you, the order you were named in, and the brands named beside you.
What we record from each answer
- Whether you were namedThe mention itself, plus the sentence it appeared in, kept verbatim so a disputed number can be opened rather than argued about.
- Order of first mentionBeing named third in a list of six is a different fact from being named first, and it is read off the prose rather than asked of the model.
- Every other brand in the answerWhich is how rivals nobody had on a competitor list get discovered, and they routinely are not the expected names.
- The sources citedWhether the answer leaned on your own pages, a review site, a marketplace listing or a forum thread.
What we can honestly tell you: whether this engine named you, in what order, alongside whom, and citing what — in the answers we bought, on the days we asked. What nobody can tell you is why it chose you, or that a change on the site will move it. We report the measurement and leave the causal story alone until we have measured enough weeks to know what its own noise looks like.
Does asking ChatGPT about us teach it about us?
No, and this is why the questions never name you. A question naming you measures whether the model can describe a brand it was told about, which is a different and much less useful fact than whether it recommends you unprompted.
Why does the answer change between runs?
These systems are non-deterministic, and grounded answers also change as the pages they search change. That variance is exactly why a single run is not a measurement and why we ask a set of questions weekly rather than one question once.
Can you tell me how to get named?
We can tell you what the answers that named your rivals cited, which is a real input to a content decision. We will not sell you a ranking mechanic for a system whose ranking mechanics are not public.
