Share of voice in AI answers

Every answer can name you while each one names six competitors alongside. Visibility would read 100%. That is not the whole story.

Visibility asks how many answers named you at all. Share of voice asks how much of the naming was yours. The first says you are in the conversation; the second says how much of it you own. They move independently, and a tool that reports one as if it were the other is producing a number nobody can act on.

A market with six plausible vendors will produce high visibility and low share of voice for all six. A market with one dominant name produces the opposite for everyone else. Knowing which of those you are in changes what the next quarter of work should be.

How each is counted

  • VisibilityAnswers naming you, divided by answers we actually got. Failed calls are excluded from the denominator; answers that named nobody are included, because they are a real finding.
  • Share of voiceYour mentions, divided by every brand mention in the run. One answer naming you twice does not count twice.
  • Neither is blended into a scoreThere is no single 'AI score' in this product. A composite that moves without anybody being able to say why is the thing we are trying not to build.
Which number should I actually report?

Both, with their denominators stated next to them. The most common way a careful report misleads is two figures counted over different spans sitting side by side with nothing saying so.

Can share of voice fall while visibility rises?

Easily, and it is a common pattern when a market gets crowded. More answers name you, and each answer names more brands. That is worth knowing and a blended score would hide it.
